Savage Pacer
The Savage Pacer newspaper was founded by Southwest Newspapers in 1994 to serve the growing suburb of Savage. It is mailed free of charge on Saturday's to 5,600 homes and businesses that have requested its delivery. The newspaper annually conducts a voluntary subscription campaign. Considerable encouragement was received from community leaders in the early 1990s for the city - one of the largest in Scott County at the time - to have its own newspaper. Before the first issue was printed, more than half of city residents requested that it be delivered to their homes. Weekly coverage has always focused on the Savage area, along with the two school districts serving the city. Laurie Hartmann has served as publisher since its inception. Claire Robling, now a state senator representing District 35, was the newspaper's first editor and worked for Southwest Newspapers for more than 20 years prior to entering political life. The Pacer's website is www.savagepacer.com.
